| Dear APEC colleagues, |
We are pleased to announce that Chinese Taipei will host the
APEC Workshop on Advancing APEC REI in the GVC Era
on September 29, 2014 in Taipei. The Workshop is a Chinese Taipei’s
self-funded project that has been endorsed by APEC CTI. In addition,
a field trip to the Hsinchu Science Park will be organized for
the foreign guests on September 30, 2014.
In the 2013 APEC Leaders’ Declaration, Leaders have called for
the promotion of global value chain (GVC) development and cooperation
in the APEC region. Furthermore, an APEC 2014 priority is “Advancing
Regional Economic Integration” and focusing on “Enhancing Cooperation
on Global Value Chain and Supply Chain.” Therefore, there exists
the need for APEC to examine the REI-GVC relationship. In sum,
an APEC workshop that discusses the APEC REI-GVC relationship
through the institution of public-private partnership is desirable.
The objectives of the Workshop:
- Identify ways to strengthen APEC REI through GVC development.
- Examine the effects of FTAAP pathways on GVCs.
- Enhance the resiliency of business and GVCs in the face
of natural disaster risks.
Chinese Taipei welcomes participants from both the public
and private sectors of all APEC economies to attend the Workshop.
We will do our utmost to ensure that APEC’s focus on enhancing
public-private partnership is realized. Most importantly,
we will work to make sure that valuable suggestions are developed
in the Workshop, so as to assist with the advancement of GVC
development in the APEC region.
